Episode 83: Saint Jack (1979)

Special Guest: Peter Bogdanovich
Guest Co-Host: Ben Slater

We're sailing off to Singapore this week with Saint Jack, a sorely overlooked film in Peter Bogdanovich's oeuvre starring Ben Gazarra as the titular character, an American trying to make a living as a pimp on the Lion Isle.

We're joined this week by Ben Slater, author of Kinda Hot, a book which documents the making of Saint Jack.

  1. That was a fascinating episode. I was completely unfamiliar with the movie Saint Jack, I mainly listened because I was interested in hearing the Bogdanovich interview. Now I definitely want to see the film. But, did you see how expensive DVD copies are?

    1. William,

Thanks for listening. It was great having Mr. Boganovich on the podcast - an honor to talk to him.

As you can tell, I didn't have a clue about this film, either. But, I was glad I had a chance to see it.

It's my understanding that Roger Corman's video label has the rights to put it out. So, it appears it's out of print - sad. Hopefully, we'll see it pop up on Netflix or something at some point soon as digital streaming becomes "the way".

      THANKS FOR LISTENING!

  2. I was really hoping this would be one of the titles that Shout! Factory licensed from Corman, so that we could finally get a decent transfer. Alas, not to be.

    Great episode, as always, guys!

  3. Great podcast! I remember when this film came out in 1979, to good reviews, specific praise to Denholm Elliot. Never got around to seeing this film, didn't think to buy or rent the DVD. Your podcast sparked me to finally see this film, but the DVD is too expensive. Found a VHS version on IOFFER.COM, can't wait to see it.
