Episode 258: Sholay (1975)

Guest Co-Host: Todd Stadtman, Beth Watkins

Ramesh Sippy's Sholay may be the most popular Indian film ever released. The film mixes Western conventions from films like The Magnificent Seven and Once Upon a Time in the West with Bollywood tropes.

Beth Watkins of Beth Loves Bollywood and Todd Stadtman, author of Funky Bollywood: The Wild World of 1970s Indian Action Cinema, join Mike in discussing the importance of Sholay.

  2. Very interesting discussion. I just found your site today through your Big Trouble in Little China episode and noticed this in the archives. Also, I'm Indian, but I grew up here in America and haven't seen that many Bollywood movies; you guys all sounded like you knew more about them than me, hehe.
