Episode 312: Never Too Young to Die (1986)

Special Guests: Gil Bettman, David Worth, Peter Kwong
Guest Co-Hosts: Heather Drain, Josh Stewart

"I kinda wanted it to be Rocky Horror Picture Show meets Rambo" - Director Gil Bettman

An outstanding example of '80s Action Cinema, Never Too Young to Die (1986) stars John Stamos as Lance Stargrove, the "son of Bond", who teams up with Peter Kwong and Vanity to take down the evil intersex rock-n-roll cult leader Velvet Von Ragnar (Gene Simmons).

The brainchild of Steven Paul (Baby Geniuses, Slapstick of Another Kind, The Double 0 Kid), the film is getting a Blu-Ray release in April, 2017.

Josh Stewart and Heather Drain join Mike to discuss this outrageous film.

Great blunt interviews that explain a lot. Fans might also want to check out Lazenby's fun Bond spoof/tribute episode of the 1980s version of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" called Diamonds Aren't Forever.

  2. Great episode! I'm almost finished but want to add three quick points:
1.) if this movie had been PG instead of R I believe it would have done much better; an R effectively kept its best potential audience - kids and teenagers - out of the theater. What made it "R" anyway? Vanity's topless shots?
2.) The 1991 Richard Grieco vehicle "If Looks Could Kill" is "Never Too Young To Die"'s lost twin brother or, at the very least, its lookalike cousin. If you haven't seen it, do check it out!
3.) Gene's Velvet concert outfit is a direct homage/duplicate of the one Lynda Carter wore in her 1979 TV special featuring a "KISS fantasy" segment:

Thanks for all the great work!
